Grounds for divorce

In order to begin divorce proceedings, you will need to show that your marriage has irretrievably broken down. This means that you must prove one of the following:

The adultery of your spouse
The unreasonable behaviour of your spouse
Separation for at least two years (you will need the consent of your spouse to divorce)
Separation for at least five years (no consent needed)
Desertion for at least two years
